Top Bars In Valletta For Afterwork Drinks
04 January 2021Updated 21 December 2023Is it possible to think of an Island without thinking of day drinking? No? Just us then. Well, regardless… Valletta is a cracking place to have a drink after a day of corporate events.
We’ve put together a guide to the top bars in Valletta for afterwork drinks. If we’re honest, it’s mostly for our benefit. But now that we’ve done it, we’re sharing it. So we hope you enjoy it!
Alchemy Valletta

Alchemy Valletta specialises in the dramatic. Their cocktails are named things like Sunfall, Philosopher’s Stone, Holy Grail, and Eternal Gold. They have a delicious menu of snacks to enjoy as you marvel – just remember to pick up your jaw after it drops to the floor.
Their decor is mystical too, designed by an internationally renowned interior designer. The mismatched marbled walls and yellow chairs make for a sleek spot between colleagues.
The street, once known as “The Gut”, was frequented by sailors of the Mediterranean. It’s formally known as Strait Street and has long since been rejuvenated. But don’t worry, it still maintains an air of history!
Their private room is perfect for afterworks and private parties. Accommodating up to 40 guests, you’ll get dedicated, personalised service and their very best mixologist on hand.
Cheeky Monkey

Cheeky Monkey gastro bar is, indeed, very cheeky. They take great pleasure in telling us that having fun is not optional. Good food is compulsory, and that getting a bit tiddly is 100% allowed — big talk.
Thankfully, they can back it up. They won the 2020 prize for the best gastropub in Malta.
The best time to go is from 4-7pm when they have a happy hour. Make sure to fill up on one of their burgers. Not that you’ll finish it, they’re huge. The King Kong burger or the Tarzan burger are standouts!
If you think this cheeky little place is the right place to spark your afterwork, then don’t wait, get in touch with them now! They’ll fire up the grill at your command, just pick a date.
The Little Red Door

The Little Red Door is the charcuterie enthusiast’s idea of heaven. They’ll even let you make your own platter! You and your guests can choose a selection of 20 different kinds of cheese and meats.
You’ll find it in the small streets of Valletta. Their little red door certainly makes for a great picture. The crooked typography of the sign will put a smile on your face and let patrons know they’re going somewhere authentic.
There’s a solid selection of drinks from spirits, craft beers, and organic soft drinks. There is also a substantial collection of local and foreign wines. And in case you were wondering, yes, you can find Andrea Bocelli’s entire personal wine brand range here.
Moari
Maori via timesofmalta
Maori stands alone on this list. Literally. The building is a lone structure outside the city’s bastion walls.
The structure has been a mural in different guises: an octopus, a boat, a cat. Maori might seem like an odd name, but it’s named after a wrecked ship at the bottom of the bay: HMS Maori.
This bar will beckon the free spirit inside you. Inside you’ll see guitars on the walls, random books spotted around the place, mismatching furniture, and even cats!
You’ll see lots of live music, readings and different cultural events here. You can shock your guests and take them off the beaten track to one of the edgiest bars in Malta. Who knows where the night will go after that?
Hammett’s Gastro Bar

Hammett’s Gastro Bar has two main inspirations: city life and Asian fusion. They have put together a social dining experience that has shaken Malta in style. So much so, they’ve been ranked first in food, service, ambience and the overall category by the Definitely Good Guide when they opened.
Portions are small and designed for sharing. Drawing from classical ingredients, the dishes have been reimagined for modern palates. Gyoza, tacos, and chicken wings are fan favourites.
Hammett’s is also for wine and cocktail enthusiasts; the menu is pretty impressive.
The venue is industrial chic – get an eye full of those large structural beams! The ambience is brightened with recycled materials like reclaimed vintage whisky barrels. Velvet rope, marble and wood furnishing give an added touch of class.
Hammett’s Gastro can accommodate up to 200 guests in a reception, or 100 seated, making it very versatile for corporate events. You can book for groups of 8 or over. Any less and they operate a no-reservations policy.
Bridge Bar

Bridge Bar is really loveable. It’s a local institution and is so multifaceted. You have to see it to believe it. The Bridge Bar sprawls out into the very streets of the city and onto the bridge.
Locals love it for its sincerity and its reasonably priced drinks. The red British phone box, red window bays, and many candles make it one of Malta’s most authentic nightlife spots.
If you can, get there on Friday – you’ll witness Jazz Nights. The musicians take over the bridge, and you and your guests sit on the stepped street. It’s like experiencing nostalgia in real-time.
The finishing touch is the views of Grand Harbour. It’s as simple as that.
The Sheer Bastion

The Sheer Bastion is for those who have big ideas and grand plans. They don’t do anything by halves. The event venue can accommodate a party of up to 800 standing guests and 350 seated guests!
The best thing about The Sheer Bastion is their rooftop terrace. You can host an event on it all year round, the views are stunning, and the sea of yachts below will give any event an extra touch of luxury.
You don’t need to host a huge event, though. The highly skilled and experienced team can cater to anything you have in mind. So you really won’t have to lift a finger.
As one of the most exclusive and prestigious venues on the Malta nightlife scene, your guests are bound to be impressed!
La Bottega
La Bottega via facebook
La Bottega has a simple but admirable mission: to find and serve the best wines in the Mediterranean. They also specialise in craft beer and have a commanding cocktail list.
They serve ideal bar food. Well-priced, unpretentious, filling and delicious. If you’re peckish, share some nachos. If your stomach is a bit too loud for company, the beef tacos will sort you out.
You can go any time of day you want, but if you can make it for happy hour, you’re on to a winner. It’s open late at night and is famous for its live music and stand up comedy.
