One thing that catches people out: Lisbon's hills and pre-automobile streets make load-in genuinely hard in the old town, some Alfama and Bairro Alto venues can only be serviced by small vans at set hours. Ask about delivery access and freight timing before you sign anything.

When Lisbon Venue Prices Spike

In short: Lisbon venue prices peak in November around Web Summit, when 70,000+ attendees push venue and hotel rates up 40% or more citywide, with a secondary wave through May–June (peak weather plus the Santos Populares festivities in mid-June, when Alfama and the old town become street parties). August is the corporate opportunity window at 15–20% below normal rates, and January–February is quietly cheap too.

Three tips from the trenches: if your event lands in Web Summit week, book 12 months out or move the date, side-event demand alone fills Marvila and the riverfront. In mid-June, avoid Alfama and Bairro Alto unless the street party IS your event. And in summer, rooftops carry a premium while indoor halls quietly discount.

One more thing. Venue hire in Portugal carries VAT (IVA) at 23%. Catering and restaurant services get an intermediate rate of 13%. Always check whether a quoted price includes IVA, the difference is significant and it's the most common source of budget surprises we see.

6) 5 Tips for Planning a Corporate Event in Lisbon

1. Hills, Transport & Venue Location

Lisbon venues near metro hubs, Baixa-Chiado (blue/green lines), Saldanha (red/yellow), Oriente (red line, rail, airport in 20 minutes), make life much easier for delegates. The hills are real: a venue "10 minutes away" in Alfama can be a steep cobbled climb, so send attendees taxi guidance (Bolt and Uber are cheap and everywhere). For Marvila and dock venues, plan shuttles, public transport thins out east and west of the centre.

2. Web Summit Booking Windows

Check the calendar before you pick a date: Web Summit (November) block-books hotels, riverfront venues and Marvila's factory spaces up to a year ahead, and side-event demand spills across the whole city. If your dates are flexible, avoiding that fortnight is the easiest 30–40% saving available in this city. Mid-June's Santos Populares makes the old town a street party, wonderful, but not for a boardroom offsite.
